TIB welcomes the conversion of 98 interim ordinances into law. However, it expresses grave concern over critical gaps, particularly the exclusion of revenue audits in the Public Audit Ordinance and the retention of arbitrary government control over local bodies, which undermine accountability and democratic norms. Furthermore, repealing or indefinitely delaying vital ordinances concerning judicial independence, the Anti-Corruption Commission, and enforced disappearances poses a significant threat to the rule of law and justice. The decision to maintain government control over the Police Commission, rather than ensuring its independence, also contradicts the fundamental spirit of institutional reform. Consequently, TIB urges the government to refrain from repealing these essential ordinances and instead effectively amend and enact them into law to safeguard institutional autonomy, protect human rights, and ensure a robust framework for governance and transparency.
