Concept note
March 8 marks International Women’s Day, celebrated worldwide to honor women’s achievements and promote equal rights and justice for all, regardless of nationality, religion, caste, language, or social and economic status. The day originated in 1908 when female garment workers in New York City went on strike for fair rights and better working conditions. It was first observed in 1909, and in 1975, the UN recognized March 8 as International Women’s Day, with international observance decided in 1977. This year’s global theme is “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.” In alignment, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) is celebrating the day nationwide and in all CCC areas under the theme: "Ensure equal representation in politics and elections to uphold the rights and justice of women and girls"
