International Day of Clean Energy 2026

Renewable Energy and Good Governance for Sustainable Development

Published: 26 January 2026

Concept Note

Clean energy is globally considered essential, timely and reliable for tackling climate change and achieving sustainable development goals. Clean energy refers to power from renewable sources such as solar, wind, hydro and geothermal energy which play a vital role in reducing dependence on fossil fuels and mitigating the impact of global warming. To raise awareness about increasing production and use of renewable energy, 26 January is observed worldwide as International Day of Clean Energy. The main goal is to increase public awareness and mobilise coordinated global actions for a just and sustainable transition towards clean energy to ensure the wellbeing of people and the planet. The United Nations first observed the day in 2024.

TIB believes that renewable energy is the key to just, eco-friendly and sustainable development. To increase awareness and demand for renewable energy transition in Bangladesh including policy clarity, specific targets, implementation potential and various challenges, TIB has undertaken multifaceted programmes at local and national levels. Under the project Promoting Good Governance and Integrity in the Energy Sector in Bangladesh, TIB aims to raise awareness regarding corruption-free and sustainable energy systems and renewable energy transition. Like the previous year, TIB has adopted various programmes ahead of the day at local and national levels to raise awareness.
