Concept Note
In the course of the students' anti-discrimination movement demanding the reform of the government quota system, the authoritarian government's fall came at the cost of unprecedented bloodshed and sacrifice. Following this, on August 8, 2024, an interim government was formed. The main expectation of the student population and the public who participated in the anti-discrimination movement from this government is the creation of a transparent, accountable, corruption-free, and equitable "New Bangladesh" with an appropriate state framework and environment.
In the "New Bangladesh," the core objective of state reforms and national political arrangements must be the eradication of corruption, abuse of power, and impunity. In order to achieve this objective, alongside comprehensive reforms of all institutions responsible for anti-corruption efforts, a conducive environment for the active participation of all stakeholders, including the media, the public, especially the youth, is crucial to strengthen the anti-corruption demand.
The youth-led movement against corruption, discrimination, and authoritarianism marks the dawn of a new era. The sacrifice of more than fifteen hundred lives will remain an inspiration for building the country’s fair, equal, and democratic future. Though initially started with the demand for quota reform, the movement quickly transformed into a demand for transparency, good governance, and the democratic rights of the people. The youth’s relentless movement, supported by the public, forced the authoritarian government to resign. This was not just a political victory; it highlighted the power of youth, collective effort, and a firm commitment to building a society based on integrity. The unprecedented loss of lives and sacrifices that fueled the dream of creating a "New Bangladesh" have inspired citizens to continue the fight against corruption, discrimination, and oppression. The essence of this movement is to build a corruption-free, equitable, well-governed, and humane Bangladesh. It has taught us that the youth is our primary weapon in the ongoing battle against corruption, and the unity of the people is our inspiration.
