Automation in the Customs Clearance Process at Chattogram Customs House: Current Status

At the Chattogram Customs House, the customs clearance process for import-export consignments is completed through the web-based ASYCUDA World system. Under this system, required information and documents related to consignments are submitted and verified online, and customs duties are paid through banks online.
With the implementation of automation at the Customs House, it is now possible to fill out the Bill of Entry and Bill of Export forms online from anywhere via the internet. In the import process, once the Import General Manifest (IGM) is submitted online and the C&F agent fills out the Bill of Entry form, a registration number is automatically generated in the form.

If physical examination of imported goods is not required, the customs duty is automatically calculated according to the HS (Harmonized System) Code once the Bill of Entry form is filled online, and the payable duty amount directly appears in the form. Similarly, for export goods, after filling out the Bill of Export form, the type and value of the goods automatically determine the applicable service charges, C&F-related income tax, and VAT.
After the duty is determined, with the approval (reload) of customs officers, the prescribed duty for imported non-commercial or bonded goods is paid online through the respective bank account. Likewise, for export goods, service charges and other fees related to customs clearance are paid through online banking.
