Press Release
Dhaka, 27 November 2025: Under the framework of the ongoing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), a two-day specialised training workshop on “Digital Forensics, Forensic Analysis, Forensic Accounting, and Cryptocurrency” was organised by TIB. This initiative aimed to enhance the professional capacity and skills of relevant ACC officials in preventing the spread of corruption via digital mediums and uncovering its hidden networks. Held at TIB’s Dhanmondi office on 26 and 27 November 2025, the training was attended by 40 investigation officials of various ranks from the ACC, including 24 from Dhaka and 16 from outside the capital.
The ACC Chairman, Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen, joined the concluding session on Thursday and remarked that TIB always plays an active role as a supportive force of the ACC in preventing corruption in Bangladesh. He said, "TIB is one of the most powerful allies of the ACC in curbing corruption. The better TIB can do its own work, the easier the work of the ACC will be." Emphasising the need to further broaden the scope of joint initiatives between the ACC and TIB, he said, "All types of necessary steps and assistance will be taken and provided by the ACC to accelerate such initiatives."
Highlighting the importance of the work of ACC investigation officials at the concluding session, TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said, "I hope that the trainees will be able to demonstrate evidence of greater professional excellence in discharging their duties by applying the knowledge acquired from this workshop." He said, "The activities of the ACC have become more dynamic and active under the current leadership than before, which is promising. However, public trust in the ACC must be restored through your work. TIB always wants to see a strong and effective Anti-Corruption Commission. Therefore, our assistance, including providing training to officials to increase the capacity of the ACC, will continue according to our ability. At the same time, if it fails to play the expected role, TIB will also provide constructive criticism of the ACC. That criticism should be seen positively; because your critic is actually your well-wisher."
The Executive Director further told the training participants, "Corruption is one of the main challenges of Bangladesh, and the state has given you the responsibility to tackle it. You should have an extraordinary sense of pride, responsibility, and self-confidence regarding this. If you can combine such values with honesty and professional excellence, you will truly be able to play an important role in gaining national and international trust in the ACC." Professor Dr Sumaiya Khair, Advisor, Executive Management of TIB, was also present at the opening and closing sessions.
On the first day of this specialised training, Mr Al-Amin, Associate Professor of the Department of Accounting and Director of the BBA Programme at the University of Dhaka, conducted day-long sessions on forensic accounting. He discussed the intricacies of forensic accounting, methods for detecting financial fraud, investigative techniques, and examples of illegal influence within the capital market.
On the final day, Dr Ershadul Karim, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Law at the University of Malaya, Malaysia, conducted sessions on digital space, digital currency, blockchain, and cryptocurrency. During these sessions, he also discussed various legal aspects of cryptocurrency. The final session on techniques for identifying illegal assets using open sources and various open data repositories was conducted by Mohammad Tauhidul Islam, Director of the Outreach and Communication division at TIB.
Certificates were distributed among the participants by the ACC Chairman, Professor Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen, during the concluding session. At this time, the participating officials shared their positive experiences regarding the training and expressed their gratitude to TIB and the ACC. They also stated that the knowledge acquired through this training would be beneficial for their future professional duties.
