Importance of elections in maintaining continuity of democratic rule in a country is immense, where essential condition of governance is that institutions will operate according to democratic rules in their internal matters and mutual interactions.
Through elections, people gain opportunities to choose representatives according to their own preference. Through the slogan ‘My vote I shall give whomever I choose’, this conviction is reflected that people shall enjoy absolute freedom in electing preferred representatives through exercising their voting rights independently.

People of Bangladesh then reached the realisation that through that national parliamentary election they could send their preferred genuine representatives to parliament. They grew hopeful that in future they could maintain continuity in exercising voting rights similarly. But following abolition of caretaker government system through fifteenth amendment of constitution, in 2013 the then main opposition alliance chose agitation demanding caretaker government and remaining firm on streets completely boycotted national parliamentary election, consequently the election became one-party.
