The Committee for Concerned Citizens (CCC), in collaboration with the local district administration, organised a daylong information fair on the premises of Lakshmipur Adarsha Samad Government High School on 13 February 2024.
The primary objective of the fair was to raise awareness among citizens about importance and application of the Right to Information (RTI) Act 2009. Commencing with a rally at 10:00 AM, the fair concluded at 8:00 PM, featuring various programmes throughout the day. A prize-giving ceremony and cultural performances by the CCC and YES members took place in the afternoon.
The fair saw active involvement of 35 government and private sector service-providing organisations, offering advice and assistance to people regarding RTI. It led to submission of over 4,000 applications to various offices by visitors, with most queries addressed promptly during the fair. Moreover, there were discussions on adolescent health awareness, government services, and building a corruption-free Bangladesh.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the youth, with the Lakshmipur YES Group organising anti-corruption quizzes, debates, and art competitions, involving students from various educational institutions.
A number of distinguished guests participated in the opening ceremony. They underscored the importance of a Citizen Charter and its regular updating, urging people to utilise the government websites and seek services online. Emphasising RTI awareness, they encouraged its frequent application to ensure transparency in the government offices and foster an environment conducive to combating corruption.
Muhammad Anwar Pasha, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development) of Chattogram Division, graced the opening ceremony as the chief guest. Suraiya Jahan, Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate of Lakshmipur, presided over the ceremony, with CCC Member Shahana Akhter serving as the moderator.
