TIB pays homage to Language Movement martyrs

Published: 21 February 2024

Like every year, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), with the spirit and determination to fight corruption, paid its tribute to the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives in the 1952 Language Movement for the right to speak Bangla.

As the sun rose on 21 February, TIB staff members, led by Executive Director Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, joined the ‘probhat ferry’ (morning rally). Carrying the banner depicting the slogan ‘Corruption is against the spirit of 21 February’, TIB paid homage to the martyrs by placing a wreath on the pedestal of the Central Shaheed Minar.

Additionally, TIB's youth volunteer groups, led by its Committees for Concerned Citizens (CCCs), also paid their homage at different corners of the country on the day.

UNESCO declared 21 February as the International Mother Language Day on 17 November 1999, and it has been observed throughout the world since 21 February 2000.
