TIB Calls for Inclusion of Women in Technology and Anti-Corruption Efforts

Published: 07 March 2023

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has called for the active inclusion of women in the mainstream of digital technology and innovation strategy to achieve gender equality. The organisation emphasises the importance of formulating and implementing a specific time-bound roadmap to protect women from online violence and torture and to increase the effectiveness of the efforts to prevent corruption.

According to TIB Executive Director Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, women's participation in technology-based economic activities has increased at a promising rate, but gender disparities still exist, particularly in technology and innovation. The lack of inclusion of women in the mainstream of strategic processes in technology and innovation must be addressed to ensure a wider and deeper expansion of women's access to technology.

TIB is calling for the government to immediately prepare and implement a specific national framework to control and prevent corruption, which is hindering the empowerment of women and preventing the establishment of an egalitarian society and sustainable development. Women are at greater risk than men due to corruption, as it obstructs justice and fuels violence against women. TIB believes that by ensuring gender equality and the empowerment of women, corruption can be reduced, and sustainable development can be achieved.
